Is PrEP accessible for minors?

PrEP is indicated for anyone at risk of contracting HIV, regardless of age. However, our pharmacy is not currently able to prescribe PrEP care for minors.

The need for HIV prevention does not depend on age. If you are a minor and considered at risk, PrEP may still be a relevant option for you.

Your confidentiality rights

Starting at age 14, Quebec law allows you to consent on your own to care related to your health, without your parents needing to be informed. This generally includes access to STI screening and treatment, as well as PrEP. Your parents do not need to be notified of this step.

Our current limitation

Despite this clinical indication, our pharmacy is not currently able to prescribe PrEP care for minors, due to clinical and organizational specifics related to this population. We can, however, fill prescriptions written by physicians and deliver the medication anywhere in Quebec.
