Is PrEP compatible with pregnancy?

Yes, there is a PrEP option considered compatible with pregnancy, but its use must be coordinated with your obstetric care team.

Tenofovir disoproxil + emtricitabine (Truvada®) is the best-studied PrEP option during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and is generally considered a viable option when a risk of HIV exposure is present.

Pregnancy requires coordinated follow-up across several aspects of your health, which is best provided by an obstetric team already in place to support you comprehensively.

Our role in this context

We can support you if your medical team recommends PrEP as part of your pregnancy but is not able to provide follow-up for it themselves. In that case, please don't hesitate to contact us so we can take over this specific aspect of your treatment.

If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy and have questions about PrEP, the best first step remains discussing it with your obstetric team. We remain available for complementary support, based on the needs identified by your care team.
