What is Yeytuo (lenacapavir)?

Yeytuo is a new injectable PrEP option, approved by Health Canada in April 2026, that only requires 2 injections per year.

Yeytuo (lenacapavir) is an HIV capsid inhibitor, a new class of medication for PrEP. Unlike Apretude (cabotegravir), which requires an injection every 2 months, Yeytuo only requires an injection every 6 months after a starting phase.

This medication is already approved and available in the United States since June 2025, under the name Yeztugo.

How is it administered?

Treatment begins with a double subcutaneous injection into the abdomen, along with oral tablets taken over 2 days to quickly reach a protective concentration in the blood. After that, only 2 injections per year are needed to maintain protection.

Is it available in Quebec right now?

Yeytuo is approved by Health Canada, but is not yet available in pharmacies in Quebec. The manufacturer is currently in discussions with private insurers and provincial public plans to establish coverage. We are following this closely and will update this page as soon as Yeytuo becomes available for our patients.

In the meantime, oral PrEP and Apretude (injectable cabotegravir) remain effective options that are accessible right now.
