Rapid HIV Self-Tests

About our service
HIV Self-Testing: Screening, at your own pace and in complete confidentiality
The HIV self-test is a major advance in prevention. It is a screening test that you can perform yourself, in an environment where you feel comfortable and safe, such as at home.
We offer the INSTI® HIV Self-Test, a device approved by Health Canada, recognized for its high reliability. It allows you to get a result in just one minute from a single drop of blood.
It is crucial to know that this test screens only for HIV, and not for other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Why is self-testing such an important tool?
Access to screening is the cornerstone of the fight against HIV. The self-test is an essential public health tool because it helps overcome several barriers:
- It increases accessibility: It offers a rapid screening option, without a medical appointment and without the delays of the healthcare system.
- It promotes confidentiality: It allows for anonymous and discreet screening, which can reduce anxiety or the fear of stigma.
- It gives you control: The self-test allows you to take charge of your health by choosing the time and place to learn your status, with complete autonomy.
By promoting earlier screening, the self-test allows people to more quickly access care, treatment (U=U), and prevention (PrEP), helping to break the chain of transmission.
Our service at the pharmacy: Support beyond the sale
Our role is not limited to just selling you a test. We are here to support you.
- The service: You can purchase the INSTI® HIV Self-Test at our pharmacy for a cost of $40.
- Instructions and support: At the time of purchase, a pharmacist will confidentially explain how the test works and ensure you are comfortable performing it. We remain available to answer your questions before, during, or after the test.
- The difference from the in-pharmacy rapid test: It is important to distinguish the self-test (which you do yourself) from our "Rapid HIV Test" service, where a professional from our team performs the test for you and interprets the result on-site.
Our commitment to universal access
Although the test is currently priced at $40, our pharmacy is actively engaged with public health authorities to advocate for the free and widespread distribution of self-tests in all Quebec pharmacies. We believe this prevention tool should be accessible to everyone, without financial barriers.
